ENCHANTED FOREST
PRIVATE COMMISSION
For a long time I have been fascinated by a concept of merging digital technologies to achieve a hand-painted look. When a private client commissioned a set of physical artworks for their residence, I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to try out this method.
I leveraged a CGI tool to design custom plants that don’t exist, and assembled an enchanted forest. The client’s dog was included in one of the works as a protagonist. A 3D model of the pet was generated with AI.
The overall theme of an Enchanted Forest was requested by the client, as well as being inspired by my recent travels to West Papua in Indonesia and Singapore. The sheer volume of plant and flower typologies never seizes to amaze me, and after observing this variety, I truly thought that any shape and colour is possible.
I was also inspired by the Dutch Golden Age of paintings, such as Rembrandt’s work. The flowers of Rembrandt specifically, where high contrast between light and shadow is what makes them particularly enchanting.
After rendering the CGI scenes, I then used photoshop to achieve an oil-painted look by stacking multiple effects.
